Our Cat Mimi is Diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma

On the morning of November 4th, 2010 we awoke to find our beautiful cat Mimi near death.  Why?  When we all went to bed all was well.

Rushing Mimi to the veterinarian hospital we later learned that her spleen had ruptured during the night and she was bleeding to death.  It took hours to stabilize Mimi to prepare her for surgery.  Thankful she made it through surgery, it wasn’t until two days later that we were allowed to visit her for a few minutes in the intensive care unit.  She was weak, but so glad to see us.  The following morning we received the call.  Mimi was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma.  This type of cancer is predominately seen in dogs.

We were told at best we would have a few months with her.  Mimi's one-year anniversary is five days away!  She is a survivor.  Our journey has not been easy, but it is Mimi’s strong will that keeps us fighting for her.

Throughout the year Mimi has received chemotherapy.  Her prescribed medication is Palladia.  Her blood is tested on a regular basis, x-rays, ultra sound...all is good.  Finding the right dose and how often she should take Palladia has been a challenge.  Compounding the medication resulted in negative side effects.  Her dose is 10mg.  Now she is receiving Palladia once a week.  At this time this seems to be working for her.

Does anyone know what are the long-term side effects of using Palladia in cats?  I am confident we are not alone.
